"The Beast from a depth of 20,000 fathoms" (English: "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms", in the USSR the film was released under the title "The Monster from the depths of the Ocean") is an American black-and-white fiction film of 1953. In different versions of the translation, the names "fathoms" (sea fathoms) changed to miles, sea miles and fathoms.
The film is based on Ray Bradbury's short story "Howler", published several years earlier in the newspaper "The Saturday Evening Post".
"The Monster from a depth of 20,000 fathoms" (1953) is the first film in which the monster appears due to the explosion of an atomic bomb.
The redosaurus from the movie "The Monster from the Depth of 20,000 Fathoms" (1953), together with King Kong, inspired Japanese directors to create Godzilla.
Because of the ice melted as a result of nuclear tests in the Arctic, a prehistoric dinosaur is coming back to life. He's heading for the east coast of North America. The only witness to the existence of the monster, Professor Tom Nesbitt, cannot convince scientists and authorities of the impending danger. Paleontologist Thurgood Ellison, according to the professor's description, establishes that the monster "may be a redosaurus." Meanwhile, the monster appears in the sea, and people die while diving to explore it. Then the monster appears in Manhattan. It is possible to kill him only with the help of a radioactive isotope.
Phenomena in artwork: Unknown creatures
A dinosaur, a representative of the extinct 100 million years ago species of redosaurus (Rhedosaurus is a fictional dinosaur species), frozen alive in the Arctic ice, comes to life after a nuclear bomb test. The creature has huge size and strength, can breathe both on land and in water. The dinosaur moves underwater in the ocean along the course of the Arctic current and tends to the vicinity of New York, where fossilized remains of its relatives were found in flooded canyons.
The dinosaur's blood contains a deadly virus that quickly infects humans. The virus enters the human body when inhaled, evaporating from drops of monster blood.
Ordinary bullets do not cause significant damage to the dinosaur. It turns out to damage his skin only with a shot from a grenade launcher. It is possible to kill the monster with a bullet with a radioactive isotope, fired precisely into an open wound on the monster's body.
