After the storm that passed through the Gulf of Mexico on July 2, an underwater gas pipeline ruptured, causing the formation of a huge flaming circle, called the "fiery eye" in social networks, reports Reuters.
The bright orange flame resembled molten lava bubbling among the water. A gas leak occurred near the drilling platform, fortunately, no people were injured during the explosion.
According to the owners of the equipment, the turbomachines of the production facilities were affected by thunderstorms and heavy rains.
Several ships were brought in to extinguish the flames, they sprayed nitrogen to localize the fire. Fighting the fire took about five hours.
The causes of the incident are being investigated. According to preliminary data, there was no oil spill. Environmentalists are still assessing the damage caused by the explosion.
