Visitors to a popular British beach have encountered a mysterious phenomenon. Last weekend, strange bubbles began to appear on the sand, causing concern among vacationers. Local authorities believe that the beach is suffering from quicksand, and warn people, especially parents with children, about possible injuries and the need to be careful. This is reported by Daily Star.
The mysterious phenomenon was observed in Rest Bay, located near Porthcawl in Wales. Eyewitnesses report that the sandy pool was filled with soft sand, and the water in it turned out to be unusually cold, despite the bright sun, which became a real mystery for many beachgoers.
After careful research, it turned out that the sand on this beach is quicksand. This kind of sand is saturated with moisture to such an extent that it reduces the friction between the grains of sand, making it unable to withstand heavy weight. As a result, the beach turns into a dangerous zone where every step can become a trap.
The Maritime and Coast Guard Agency did not stay away from what was happening and urgently appealed to the public with a warning:
"Stay calm, distribute your weight and avoid movement. Anyone who is trapped should immediately report their situation in order to avoid possible danger to rescuers who, without special equipment, may be trapped on the sand with the injured."
Quicksand, similar to those formed on this beach, is often caused by ground water penetrating to the surface. This can also happen due to strong storms that make changes in the composition of the sand and make it less stable.
Quicksand incidents are not uncommon, but their occurrence on a popular British beach is particularly alarming. Many vacationers are urged to be careful and stay away from the danger zone to minimize the risk of injury.
One man who found himself trapped in the sand while jogging on the beach in Newquay, shared his fear:
"There are a lot of people on the beach now, and I'm afraid that my dog may get entangled in quicksand, and then I myself will get trapped trying to help her."
Local authorities are taking measures to prevent possible accidents. In addition to warnings and instructions about extreme caution, they are actively working on the designation of dangerous areas of the beach and the placement of information signs to warn visitors.
