The Australian region of Gippsland after the flood is covered by the "spider plague": spiders rushed to the hills and entangled a huge area of suburban areas with a web. Whole "blankets" of cobwebs cover trees and shrubs, garden furniture and fences near houses, reports the newspaper. The Guardian.
In the wind, the cover of cobwebs ripples like the waves of the sea, creating a frightening picture. Cobwebs cover the poles and wires of power lines, hanging in fragments from road signs.
According to entomologists from the Melbourne Museum, so many webs can create millions of large and small spiders.
This frightening phenomenon occurs from time to time in Victoria during the Australian winter, when a large amount of rain falls.
Spiders weave special thin light fabrics from the web, similar to silk. They use webs to move around in high winds. Sometimes arthropods fly on such a web up to 100 km, fleeing from flooding.
When a huge number of spiders do this at the same time, the web webs cling to each other and cover large areas.
