In Bugulma (Tatarstan) a rare optical phenomenon called pink sunset, or purple aurora, was observed today.
It occurs at morning or evening dawn and is a play of sunlight scattered by the atmosphere and repeatedly reflected in snow crystals.
The phenomenon lasts only 20-30 minutes, and during this time the colors of the sky change all the time. The purple color becomes saturated when the Sun is at 4° below the horizon.
