Every person repeatedly faces the effect of deja vu throughout his life. At the same time, there is a feeling of a familiar situation or place, although the brain cannot establish a connection of this event with a specific past. However, according to the Onliner publication, Professor Ann Cleary from the University of Colorado has come closer to unraveling what causes the deja vu effect.
The specialist hypothesized that this feeling occurs when a person feels the spatial similarity of their memories and reality. To confirm her guess, the researcher organized an experiment in virtual reality.
As part of the experiment, places unfamiliar to them were created for the participants, but the location of the surrounding objects remained familiar to them. Based on this, as Cleary noted, the subjects periodically experienced the feeling that they had already visited this place and seen everything around, and this is what happens with deja vu.
