"The mysterious castle" ("The Haunted Castle") is a silent short film directed by George albert Smith, shot in 1897.The film lasts just one minute. It is based on a story written by Georges Malecom.
To create the illusion of spontaneous movement of objects used cords. To simulate the sudden appearance and disappearance of objects, the recording was stopped (this is the most common technique of creating special effects in movies the nineteenth century).

In the story, the action takes place in a hotel populated by ghosts.
Two men enter the room in the castle; one of them offers a different chair, and then leaves. The remaining man tries to sit, but the chair moves away from him, and he falls to the ground. When a person comes to the chair, he at first turns into a Ghost, then a skeleton, then completely disappears. Turning around, one is confronted with the devil. He tries to escape, but his path is blocked by the Ghost.
