A dead whale embryo was found on a beach in the Cayman Islands, according to the Department of the Environment of the Cayman Islands.
On Monday, the official account of the department published a photo of a dead pygmy sperm whale, which was found near the village of Bodden Town. The fact that this is an embryo, experts realized by its small size (about a meter) and underdeveloped eyes and teeth.
The department denies that the cause of death could be a person:
"Most likely, his mother was caught in a tropical hurricane, which caused the miscarriage. Whales often have a miscarriage due to injury or stress, or when the surrounding conditions are unfavorable for the baby."
Adult pygmy sperm whales reach a weight of up to 500 kilograms and a length of up to 4 meters. As a rule, they live up to 23 years in the wild.
