A new type of predator of an "alien" species has been discovered in Russia

Experts from the Russian Federation discovered an "alien" yellow predator in Primorye and captured it on a video camera, the telegram channel of the National Scientific Center for Marine Biology named after A. V. Zhirmunsky FEB RAS informs.

Experts found the find in the forest near Cape Balka on Russian Island in the Sea of Japan.

This unusual creature is a terrestrial predatory planaria. Its other name is the hammer worm because of the head of the corresponding shape. Although this animal is predatory, it attacks only small animals such as snails and crustaceans, and also eats their eggs. Planaria are not large in size and are dangerous exclusively for small invertebrates.

As researcher L. Prozorova noted, we are talking about both a new species and a genus. A publication on these endemics is currently being prepared. The expert suggests temporarily naming them Bipaliinae gen. sp.
