Initial data
Last Friday, at least 80 people reported spherical flaming clumps flying over the coastal part of North Carolina. The objects were moving at a speed of about 51.5 thousand kilometers per hour and flew about 42 kilometers before disappearing.
It is not known whether the bolides were fragments of a more massive meteorite that broke apart when entering the upper atmosphere, or whether they were originally separate objects. In any case, the flight of fireballs in the night sky was an impressive sight for observers.
Scientists classified the objects as bolides. The International Astronomical Union does not have an official definition of this concept, but a common characteristic of such objects is their extraordinary brightness: they are much brighter than other meteorites.
It's no secret that meteorites almost constantly "bombard" our planet, burning up in its atmosphere with the rarest exceptions. Therefore, there is nothing unusual in Friday's testimonies. However, NASA does not think so: the cars that flew over the USA had a strange trajectory, which scientists cannot yet determine.
