Initial data
In mid-December 1989, a message appeared that a resident of Kostroma, I. Lovachev, saw a "wild man" while hunting. M.S. Trachtenhertz went to Kostroma, found Lovachev and wrote down his story.
On November 13, M. Lovachev and a group of hunters from Kostroma hunted near the town of Sudislavl, in the eastern part of the region. They shot a moose. After taking part of the loot, the hunters went home, deciding to try their luck again the next day.
Arriving the next day, some of the hunters went into the pen, and Lovachev and a few others hid in the bushes along the edge of a small clearing. Suddenly Lovachev noticed the figure of a man standing behind a bush, whose entire body was covered with hair.
The "hairy man" had obviously been watching the hunter for a long time, since noticing that he was seen, he came out of his hiding place, crossed the clearing and retired into the forest, and in the direction in which the cries of the beaters were heard. His height was about two meters, the footprints he left were about 40 centimeters long.
After a while, he crossed the clearing in the opposite direction. This time, in addition to Lovachev, several other hunters saw him.
Later, with a rather cursory survey of hunters and local residents, it was possible to establish that a similar (or the same) "hairy man" was seen by a local artist, approximately in the same area.
