Initial data
UFO in the Caucasus in 1967.
Vladimir Sorokin:
This phenomenon was observed in late June - early August. I was in the Komsomol labor detachment, consisting of ninth graders of school No. 1 in Vologda. We worked in the Krasnodar Territory, in the state farm "Sunny" on fruit harvesting.
During one of the evening checks, a shooting star appeared in the sky (we took it for a meteorite), which suddenly stopped and after some moments a large "lamp" flashed in its place and began to move across the sky, creating a glow of air masses around it. In motion, she resembled a jellyfish with developing edges.
We were at a loss to guess, since this object did not resemble anything we had ever seen before. There was a military airfield half a kilometer away from us. At first we thought it was connected with him, but literally the next day our assumptions were dispelled by the servicemen who visit our camp. They had no idea what it was, and claimed that the flying object had nothing to do with aviation.
Already being in Vologda, in the same year I watched a speech by members of the UFO study section on Central Television.
The transmission was conducted by a major general. He just mentioned that phenomenon over the North Caucasus (Krasnodar Territory).
Alexander Kudrin:
Your brother. my friend Volodya wrote to me and asked me to describe in a letter to you a UFO that we saw in the summer of 1967 near Krasnodar.
He appeared late in the evening, or rather, at the beginning of a dark southern night, somewhere around nine o'clock in the evening. It was an orange-red glowing ball, moving completely silently, leaving a tongue of flame behind it. It resembled a jet engine, but was, as it seemed to me, much larger. The object was flying at a speed of about 100 km per hour at an altitude of about 500 meters towards the air defense airfield, near which (about a kilometer) our tents were located.
However, it was quite difficult to determine its size, speed and altitude, since it was completely dark. Maybe the glowing ball (nozzle) we observed was only part of a UFO.
We didn't see him for more than a minute. Flying over the airfield, he disappeared.
Hypotheses
Booster, the rocket and tracks
For UFOs often take stages of rockets, parts of space ships burning in the atmosphere, the launches of various missile technology for military purposes, etc., and traces from them. They attract attention mostly in the dark, but in the day time have a greater aura of mystery.
Formation of the track of the launch vehicle occurs in the tropopause (the layer between the troposphere and stratosphere), which sharply reduced the vertical temperature gradient. The emergence of the so-called "jellyfish" influenced by water vapor, which are subject to enhanced condensation.
