When American Dave Barsalow was 10 years old, he lived in new York in an old house with my parents, sister and grandmother.

One night a thunderstorm started and the thunder woke up the boy in his bedroom on the second floor. But not only the wind and thunder woke him, there was something else. "With the wind came another sound from him I get chills ran all over my body.

It was a very creepy moan or a roar and people don't cry and no animal that I knew, not moaning and whining". The sound that the boy had called howl, made him eventually get out of bed and afraid to go to grandmother's room, she was the closest. He climbed to my bed and lay down beside, and then asked her what is that dreadful sound. Grandma told him that it was just the wind.

"But I knew it was not the wind. And grandmother, too, knew it was not the wind." A terrible groan he moved like a living creature. He rounded the house and walked right up to the wall next to the bedroom grandmother. "The howling was so close, just a couple of feet from us and I fear buried his face in grandma's shoulder and asked her to hug me".

Finally the sound became quieter and storm also died down. Dave fell asleep. When he woke up, he saw the sunlight coming through the window, and grandma was not. He found her on the street with a bucket and MOP she was cleaning the porch.

"And I saw that it was purified. It had dirty footprints of tiny feet. All porch was covered with them. They were so tiny, like a baby." "I again went back the creeps and I asked my grandmother what it was. But I said nothing, but continued cleaning. I never asked my grandmother about this mysterious howling. Some part of me was afraid to know the truth about what there was outside that night".

Then Dave learned that many Indian tribes that lived in the valley of the Hudson river (where is now new York city) told legends about the little people. And these dwarfs were somehow associated with thunderstorms and storms.
