Initial data
Passenger BU278 from Bergen to Stavanger took this photo before landing at the airport of Stavanger.
This flight took about 35 minutes from takeoff to landing. BU278 flew from Bergen at 18:10, and this was 10 minutes before landing, so the time was around 18:35.
The passenger saw something sharp protruding through a layer of clouds, and took the picture from the left window of the plane, towards the East.
In 1996, odd-Gunnar Reed read UFO lectures to workers on drilling rigs in the North sea. After showing this picture to the audience, Roger M. Jensen has returned from the library with the December 1995 edition of "Offshore Engineer".
Here's your UFO, he said, and showed Ed the picture Saipem 7000.
This ship crane, a ship which is specialized to lift heavy loads. Saipem 7000 was the world's largest crane vessel until 2000, reaching a height of 220 m (almost twice the height of oil rigs), and usually moored to the North of Stavanger.
Not surprisingly, then, were seen two of its peaks through the low cloud cover.

During 1996 Odd-Gunnar Røed was giving UFO lectures to workers on the oil rigs in the North Sea. After showing this photograph to the audience, a Mr. Roger M. Jensen returned from the library with the December 1995 edition of Offshore Engineer. Here’s your UFO, he said, and showed Røed a photo of Saipem 7000. This is a crane vessel, a ship that is specialized in lifting heavy loads. The Saipem 7000 was the world’s largest crane vessel up to year 2000, reaching 220 m height (almost twice the height of an oil rig), and it is usually docked just north of Stavanger. No wonder then that its two peaks were visible through a low cloud cover.

Buildings and structures of unusual construction
There are residential and non-residential buildings and structures, the design of which can resemble a landed flying saucer. Sometimes such buildings are framed by illuminated spotlights or decorated with light bulbs, which increases the similarity. Also it may not be provided by the design, but made intentionally for a good frame with a UFO. This can also include various moving mechanisms.
These structures include unusual hotels, water towers, storage facilities and radio transparent shelters for radar stations.
The lights of cranes, pipes and skyscrapers
Most often, this category can be attributed to the lights of a crane, high-rise buildings, boiler pipes, etc., equipped with nighttime lighting that is visible through the haze, fog, or when the color match between the support and the color of the surrounding space.
For unexplained may be taken accidentally or deliberately issued when shooting photos and video. A feature of the lights of a construction crane (in contrast to the street lights) is the movement of the boom, which is a light source.
