Initial data
Two boys, Andy and Joel Rieg, were playing at Gitchie Manitou state Park when they heard "strange noises followed by grunts and then whistles."
They looked and saw a man at least 7 feet (2.1 m) tall standing behind a Bush about 70 feet (21 m) away. The part of his leg that was visible was covered with a shiny blue cloth.
As the noise grew louder, the boys ran for miles to their brothers Chris and Tom. The four then saw a pulsing, glowing object the size and shape of a large haystack appear from behind a large tree about 50 yards (45 m) away. It hovered with a humming sound for 5 seconds, then sped off.
The small oaks it hovered over were later found to be leafless.
