Initial data
Tata Porras, 16, claimed that his 14-year-old brother Michael was attacked by an "aswang" (a mythological Filipino creature), which he claimed was disguised as a large black dog with red glowing eyes.
Porra's description exactly matched the appearance of a supernatural creature that can take various forms while devouring prey. He claimed that he and his younger brother were sleeping in a makeshift mall hut near a rice paddy on the aforementioned evening, guarding ducks on their farm, when the incident occurred.
The boy's parents were sleeping in their home just a few meters from a rice field. Tata reported that the large black dog was about three feet tall and was about to bite his younger brother's neck when he saw it. When he saw the creature, he grabbed a single-shot rifle and fired at the creature. Then the creature escaped and was lost in the darkness.
Prior to the alleged attack, Tata said he heard a creaking sound outside the makeshift hut. Michael was shot in the right leg when Tata shot Aswang.
He was immediately taken to South Cotabato Provincial Hospital for treatment.
