The teenager, who was driving home after a late-night basketball game, was driving especially carefully along a road known for having quite a bit of wildlife on it at night when she noticed something ahead. As she passed the nearest entrance to the ranch, she noticed something sitting on the wide gate. She didn't know what it was, so she slowed down to look.
As she got closer, she saw a flesh-colored animal, about three feet tall, perched on top of a pole. It had a round head like an owl's, and a round sloping face with a tiny round nose like a short snout, and a slit for a mouth. It had eyes that looked like they were tilted from the inside to the nose and up from the outside.
She couldn't see what color her eyes were, and they didn't glow when the headlights shone on her. The creature sat with its legs folded together and its knees out, in a squat with bowed legs. It had legs like a bird's, with toes or claws at the back and front. He had short arms with a flap of triangular leather on the backs. At the tips of the skin flaps was something pointed, like a thumb or a bat's claw. It appeared to have paws with four fingers on each, and its hands were partially hidden under a flap of skin on each side.
If the skin flaps were wings, the creature didn't try to use them for flight. The skin or short coat was brown or peach-colored, wrinkled in places, like a bat's. As soon as the teen started to pass the creature, it jumped out of the gate post and jumped towards her truck.
The gate post is quite far from the highway, but it swerved to avoid hitting the creature. The creature hit the ground, crouched for a second, then ran on two legs. She said she hit the gas pedal and left the thing to swallow the dust.
She was so scared that she cried the rest of the way home.

As she got closer, she saw a flesh-colored animal, about three feet tall, crouched on top of the post. It had a round head like an owl and a round, sloped face with a tiny round nose, like a short snout, and a slit for a mouth. It had eyes that looked like they were slanted down at the inside toward the nose and up at the outside. She could not see what color the eyes were and they did not shine when her headlights lit it up. The creature was sitting with its feet together and its knees out, in a bow-legged squat. It had feet like a bird with a set of toes or talons in the back and another set in the front. It had short arms with a flap of triangular skin on the back sides. There was something pointed at the tips of the skin flaps that looked like a bat thumb or claw. It looked like it had paws with four digits on each one and the arms were partially hidden underneath a flap of skin on each side. If the skin flaps were wings, the creature did not attempt to use them to fly. The skin or short fur was a tan or peach color and it was wrinkled in places like a baby bat. Just as the teenager started to pass the creature it sprung from the gate post and jumped toward her truck. The gate post is quite a distance from the highway but she swerved to avoid hitting the creature. The thing hit the ground crouched for a second then started running on two legs. She said she hit the gas pedal and left the thing eating dust. She was so scared that she cried the rest of the way home.
