Poltergeist. United Kingdom

This story is known as the "poltergeist in Souchi" and took place in Scotland in 1960.

That year, the Campbell family came from Ireland to the Scottish town of Souchy in Clackmannanshire. The family consisted of Annie Campbell, her 11-year-old daughter Virginia, 30-year-old Thomas Campbell - Annie's brother, his wife Isabel and their two children.

Annie somehow got a job at a boarding house, but for this she had to get up very early and spend almost the whole day at work. 

Her daughter Virginia also had a hard time, she was a shy girl, it was difficult for her to make new friends and the move made her even more timid. Virginia spent most of her time with her cousin Margaret, with whom she shared a room.

Gradually, their life in a new place was getting better, but Virginia was still very uncomfortable and in the end it all turned into a very bizarre story about supernatural forces.

On the evening of November 22, 1960, when Virginia and Margaret were already in bed in their bedroom, they heard strange sounds, like "balls bouncing off the walls." Since there was no visible source of these sounds in the room, the girls were frightened and eventually, when the sound became even louder, they ran to their parents.

At the same time, they noticed that while they were descending from their bedroom, located on the second floor of the house, to the first floor, the sound of bouncing balls followed them.

The parents said that it just seemed to them and told them to go back to the bedroom, but when the girls returned, the sounds continued to frighten them and they were joined by the sounds of scratching - as if some animals were scratching inside the walls.

It scared the kids even more, but that was just the beginning. In the following days and nights, things got even worse, now they noticed that their things were disappearing by themselves, and the furniture was moving. At some point, the girls' parents also noticed this.

"An apple jumped out of the dish and Virginia ate it. I went to the phone. Virginia was in the house with her father at the time. He said that while I was away, the apple appeared on the plate three times by itself. 

Then the pot flew out of the closet and hit Virginia on the nose. He fell into a chair right before I got home. A piece of chocolate fell off the sideboard, and then a pencil. A notepad flew out of the kitchen into the living room. 

The light turned on twice by itself. Virginia took the broom, but it flew out of her hands and the rubber flew off its handle. There was a knock under the table. Virginia also struck back three times. Then there were three bangs behind me," as Annie, Virginia's mother, described it.

Among other oddities, it can be noted that the sheets on Virginia's bed began to change their color. And then there were sinister invisible hands pinching and poking all the people present in the house. 

These phenomena followed Virginia to school. One day, a teacher and other students witnessed how Virginia's desk rose from the floor to the ceiling and hovered there vibrating for a while. 

Virginia's mother also reported that one night something pushed her out of bed and tore off her blanket. All this time, the house was regularly subjected to invisible blows on the walls and doors. 

One day, their family doctor, Dr. William Logan, arrived at the Campbell house:

"I was called to the house because of the incidents and incidents that happened there that night, and, as it turned out, the same thing happened there last nights. When I arrived at the house, the homeowners were in a state of excitement and tension and informed me that they had heard knocks and other sounds, as well as seen objects and furniture moving and that something strange was clearly happening here. 

I approached the girl, who was lying in bed and looked quite relaxed despite all the commotion, and asked her to try to relax and try to forget that I was standing in the room next to her. 

After being in the room for ten or fifteen minutes, I noticed that one of the pillows next to Virginia began to move in a rather unusual way. You can imagine Virginia lying with her head on this pillow, and next to her another pillow, and this pillow began to rotate. 

In addition, I noticed around the same time or shortly after that there was a depression or dent on the bed that started to twitch, as if something was pulling from inside or pushing, but there was no obvious physical force causing this movement.   

I carefully checked that Virginia herself was unable to cause these strange movements, both by observation and by checking the position of her arms and legs. Besides, there wasn't another person close enough to Virginia or her pillow to pull this off. 

I waited a bit, and then another phenomenon happened, and it was the wrinkling of the bedclothes on her bed. Again, if you can try to imagine this piece of fabric as part of the bedspread on Virginia's bed, the bedclothes seemed to be pulled up and attracted to Virginia, as if some force was trying to pull this bedspread. 

One of the sounds I heard was a very characteristic friction sound. Another noise that was present was a knock, similar to clicking on a chair. After a while we decided to go home, thinking that maybe Virginia would calm down and fall asleep when we left. 

As we were walking out the door, a very unusual thing happened. All these sounds and knocks seemed to have acquired a different character, they became very hurried and agitated, as if something was trying to make us stay in the room or draw attention to the child in bed again."

After that, the doctor no longer came to the Campbell house to examine the girl, but read diaries about her condition, which the family began to keep on his advice.

It seemed that some entity was following Virginia wherever she went. When she wasn't around, nothing happened in those parts of the house. 

Then a priest, Reverend Lund, was invited to the house, and he, too, was an eyewitness to the phenomena of the poltergeist. At the same time, he noticed that sometimes Virginia fell into a state similar to a deep trance, and sometimes she seemed to be "possessed by a demon" and then the girl screamed hysterically at the people around her. And when she calmed down and came to her senses, she did not remember anything that had happened to her. 

"It was a very humiliating experience. I felt that we were in the presence of forces hitherto almost unknown to us. What happened was not created by the child himself, an outside agent is responsible for it. Believe me, something annoying was happening in this house. The girl was hysterical all the time while the phenomenon was manifested," the priest reported. 

Lund was also an eyewitness to knocks on walls and the movement of objects. By this time, the story had already reached the press, it was circulating in the news, attracting a variety of reporters and curious people to the Campbell house.

Lund tried to purify the house by inviting several other priests there, and during the purification ceremony they all heard knocking and scratching sounds echoing around the house. 

After cleansing, the activity of the poltergeist subsided somewhat, but continued from time to time, until finally it was over forever. After that, in 1965, the family moved to the city of Bedfort and their traces were lost.
