Having read your note in the "Work" of 30.1.85 about a mysterious phenomenon, I want to describe a similar phenomenon that my husband and I observed on September 7, 1984..We left Tikhvin at 3:30 in the direction of Leningrad. To keep my husband awake, I tried my best to distract him. He was driving Mom's car, and I was looking around.
The night was quite dark, starry and cold (frosts are not uncommon in our area at that time of year). And suddenly, in the course of the car on the right (that is, to the southeast) I saw a bright glowing dot. Well, I immediately decided that it was an airplane, since the distance was about the same as to the flying plane, well, maybe a little further away, since the stars were very far away in relation to this point.
But suddenly this point began to grow with some kind of greenish-turquoise halo. This halo began to grow towards the ground like an egg with the blunt end down.
I just automatically turned on the electric clock, the clock showed 4 hours 12 minutes. At the beginning, my husband did not pay attention to what I told him, but looked carefully at the road. Well, when this cloud lit up everything to our right, he stopped the car and we got out and watched for about five minutes.
The core, that is, the luminous point did not move, as if it froze and only emitted light. And there was such an impression that on the left, on the other side of the road, it was dark night, and on the right it was white day. But we were in a hurry and so we went.
I've been watching this glow all the time. And at some point the point was no longer visible, but the light continued to remain, only now it was no longer so bright and was getting wider, but the boundaries could be seen. Then the road, apparently, turned to the left gradually, and the cloud remained behind.
But for thirty minutes this cloud was glowing. My husband and I decided that it was still some kind of atmospheric phenomena, but the phenomena are quite creepy. And I have never seen such phenomena.
The newspaper does not write the date when this happened. And we definitely observed this phenomenon on September 7 (Friday), 1984 (since I took a day off on that day) and also remembered the time well, it was 4 hours 12 minutes (but I didn't turn on the clock right away), maybe 1-2 minutes after I saw it.
