Van Valentin Viktorovich writes about the observation of an anomalous phenomenon in the area of the village . Chkalovsky of the Loukhsky district of the Karelian ASSR:

On June 27, 1988, I, Van V.V., captain of the Marine Biological Station of LSU, was on Sredny Island in the Kandalaksha Bay of the White Sea (KASSR) on the territory of the MBS in the duty room and looked through the logbook of the MBS. Together with me there was a student of LSU Dmitrieva Tatiana Yurievna on duty at the MBS. The weather was almost calm. The surface of the water in Nogovitsa Bay was almost a mirror surface. There were rare cumulus clouds in the sky, by which it was possible to determine that air masses were moving in the upper layers of the atmosphere. The cloud cover did not exceed 2-3 points. According to the movement of clouds, it can be assumed that the wind in the upper layers had a direction of approximately W-Wts about 268.5 degrees.

While my attention was focused on the pages of the magazine, Dmitrieva T.Y. was looking out the window. Suddenly she turned to me with a question: "Look, what is that in the sky?".

I looked up from reading the magazine and glanced out the window. In a clear sky, quite brightly lit (Sredny Island is located near the Arctic Circle and there are practically no nights there in the summer, the illumination is about the same as at the height of the white nights in Leningrad with perfectly clear weather), the contrail of the aircraft passed, and a bright light point hung slightly to the right of it, resembling in its the shape, size and intensity of the glow is the beginning of the appearance of an inversion trace.

I stared at the magazine again, but while my eyes continued to read the text, the picture I had just seen was imprinted in my brain and the brain, against my will, continued to analyze it.

And then I realized that this luminous dot is not an inversion trail, because it has too clear outlines, and the edges of the inversion trail are vague, it has a rectangular shape, and the inversion trail has the shape of a strongly elongated cone facing the narrow part of the plane, the plane itself is visible in front of the inversion trail, but here it is absent, the intensity of the glow of this dash. slightly higher than it has an inversion trace.

I quickly turned my gaze back to the window and began to observe this object (or phenomenon) with interest. according to my estimation, at least 8-10 seconds have passed between the first and second look out the window. I immediately noted the time on my wristwatch. It was 00-00 (the beginning of the day on June 27). Upon closer examination, I got the impression that this object has a cylindrical shape and is made of some well-polished white metal, which in the rays of the setting sun glows with a reflected, slightly yellowish light, the intensity of which is slightly higher than the intensity of the glow of the inversion trace.

At the moment of the beginning of the observation, the cylinder was in a strictly vertical position and had no translational motion (mentally, I immediately took a bearing on it along the treetops). The angle of the cylinder was about 30 degrees, azimuth NNW-NWtN. While the contrail passing next to the cylinder shifted downwind to the left of the observers, the cylinder continued to hang in one place, without visible horizontal movements. The entire observation time of this phenomenon was 10 minutes. During this period, the cylinder made a rotational movement around its transverse axis, turning approximately 40 degrees from the original (vertical) position clockwise from the observers' place.

At the berth, in the area of the duty station, there was a ship of the Kazan State University "Monga" from the wheelhouse of which its captain Gennady Ivanovich Silantyev came on deck. I jumped out of the duty room and ran to the dock. The distance is about 30 meters. Running up, I asked Silantyev for binoculars. Silantyev gave it to me. I managed to point the binoculars at this cylinder, but I watched it for no more than 1-2 seconds, because the cloud that appeared covered this cylinder.

After some time (40-50 minutes later), a boat with a group of Kharkiv residents came to the island, who joyfully declared with one voice that they had seen a "flying saucer". I questioned them in detail about what they had observed. They were located about 12-15 kilometers from the MBS on the other island and, according to my conclusion, observed the same phenomenon as me and Dmitrieva T.Y. The angular dimensions of the glowing cylinder were approximately - length 8', width 0.'8. The ratio of pancakes to width was 10:1 according to visual assessment.

According to individual reports, the same phenomenon was observed for about a week and at about the same time (not every day). I have never seen such a phenomenon again.

Booster, the rocket and tracks

For UFOs often take stages of rockets, parts of space ships burning in the atmosphere, the launches of various missile technology for military purposes, etc., and traces from them. They attract attention mostly in the dark, but in the day time have a greater aura of mystery.

Formation of the track of the launch vehicle occurs in the tropopause (the layer between the troposphere and stratosphere), which sharply reduced the vertical temperature gradient. The emergence of the so-called "jellyfish" influenced by water vapor, which are subject to enhanced condensation.
