Initial data
August 17, 1988 at 21h.17m. Moscow time from the Volga River near the village. Kopanovka of the Enotaevsky district of the Astrakhan region observed an unusual atmospheric phenomenon that may be related to UFOs.
Against the background of an absolutely clear starry sky (cloud cover 0 points) in the area of the constellation Cassiopeia, we saw a green-blue formation consisting of four exactly glowing spherical "clouds" of different sizes. In the lower part of the formation, maroon "tails" were faintly visible on the first three "balls".
The total size of the formation is approximately equal to the size of a small cumulus cloud.
Gradually, the outlines of the "balls" began to blur. Through them it became possible to see the stars. After 15 minutes, one glowing "cloud" formed in their place, which then disappeared.
The correct geometric shape of the components of the atmospheric formation, their smooth green-blue glow do not allow us to give any sound explanation from the point of view of our previous life experience and knowledge. This is not like the Northern lights, which we all had to observe before (Rakitin V.D. - in Severomorsk, Muravitsky
M.M. - in Norilsk, A.R. Schweitzer - in the north of the Vologda region).
We have not observed the moment and process of the appearance of the described atmospheric formation.
A drawing of the observed atmospheric formation is attached.
Hypotheses
Booster, the rocket and tracks
For UFOs often take stages of rockets, parts of space ships burning in the atmosphere, the launches of various missile technology for military purposes, etc., and traces from them. They attract attention mostly in the dark, but in the day time have a greater aura of mystery.
Formation of the track of the launch vehicle occurs in the tropopause (the layer between the troposphere and stratosphere), which sharply reduced the vertical temperature gradient. The emergence of the so-called "jellyfish" influenced by water vapor, which are subject to enhanced condensation.
