Initial data
Ptitsin A.O. on the observation of an unusual phenomenon in the village. Coniferous (Leningrad region).
In August 1986, as part of a group of tourists, I was on a hike along the Pes River (a tributary of the Mologa River). On the 5th or 6th day of the journey, we found ourselves in the area of Coniferous (sewn on it in the direction of Chagoda). I don't remember the exact date, either it was August 6 or August 18 (we went on the night of 14).
We stopped at the big one (70 meters in diameter) a forest clearing by the river. A fire was lit. The night was moonless, and layered clouds were visible on the horizon. Windlessness. By morning, the weather had deteriorated.
By one-thirty in the morning, most of the people had gone to their tents. I was among a group of 5 people who stayed by the campfire. It seemed to me that it brightened somewhat. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a light path. I turned towards the probable source and saw an impressive sluggishness.
In the sky, at an altitude of about 30 degrees, there was a glowing bright silver-phosphorescent object, from which a cone of light of the same color was moving down. The object looked like a bright star, its shape could be distinguished: it was a figure close to a semicircle, with an apparent size of about 1/4 the diameter of the moon at the zenith. The contours of the whole phenomenon were clear, there was no volumetric effect, everything was perceived flat (the feeling of a glued application).
The cone went behind the crowns of the forest trees, but in its visible part the width of the base was about one and a half match lengths at arm's length, and the ratio of height to base as 6/1 - 8/1 the total height of the cone was 10-12 matches at arm's length.
The glow of the object was its own, brighter than the moon. The cone was checked somewhat fainter, approximately with the brightness of the moon's light. The intensity of its glow was constant throughout the entire height. The surrounding area was not illuminated by the object.
The edge of layered clouds at the horizon divided the column of light into approximately equal parts. Whether the clouds fell into the spot of light, I cannot say, but according to the subjective feeling, the cone was high and far away from the observer, much further than the clouds, although in fact it was not noticeable.
When I saw the object, I immediately drew the attention of the rest to it. For more than a minute we admired the spectacle, forgetting that we have cameras in our tent. Then the object, which was almost stationary (the upward movement was very slow), went out, as if the electric power had been turned off
the light bulb in almost immediately sang a light cone. There was a feeling that the object was torn away from the cone and it disappeared.
But for a long time in place of the beam, a glowing area with a greenish tinge was visible, highlighting the clouds, which lasted until 6 o'clock in the morning, maintaining a stable shape. The total observation time was 5-6 minutes.
No one heard any extraneous sounds, except the crackling of the burning fire. The planes did not fly by. We discussed for a long time what it could be.
The version of the rocket's descent disappeared, because there was no movement. So they could not tie this phenomenon to anything. But everyone felt that the beam was coming from some specific source.
I have not observed such phenomena in the past.
Hypotheses
Booster, the rocket and tracks
For UFOs often take stages of rockets, parts of space ships burning in the atmosphere, the launches of various missile technology for military purposes, etc., and traces from them. They attract attention mostly in the dark, but in the day time have a greater aura of mystery.
Formation of the track of the launch vehicle occurs in the tropopause (the layer between the troposphere and stratosphere), which sharply reduced the vertical temperature gradient. The emergence of the so-called "jellyfish" influenced by water vapor, which are subject to enhanced condensation.
