Initial data
On Wednesday, March 31, 1982, in the evening, a red star flies high in the sky from south to north in a straight line, as if on a ruler, with an elevation of about 30 °, leaving a thick trail of white smoke, larger than that of a jet plane. Then the plume began to expand smoothly and became very wide, the ball turned white, then 5 wide rays formed, which formed this wide plume.
When the balloon flew over the zenith, 4 flickering dots were visible in the plume jets, arranged in a diamond and 2 more flickering dots ahead. All of them flickered randomly and may have been dropped and moved by inertia in the jets of smoke.
Then the diamond slowly went down a smooth curve from the plume and these points probably burned out at the same time. Torches appeared at each point on both sides and perpendicular to each other. Then these dots went out. The ball continued to move (move away). The sound accompanying the flight was like the hiss of a frying pan on the stove, not loud (passing trams and cars drowned it out).
The ball continued to move away. The rays began to fade and the ball disappeared completely.
It wasn't dark outside yet, but it was already dusk. Lights were on in the apartments. The diameter of this ball was approximately equal to half of the lunar disk, appeared at an altitude of about 30 °. The entire firmament from appearance to disappearance flew by in three minutes. When he appeared, I looked at my watch. It was 20-28 local time, and when it disappeared it was 20-31 min.
The moon of the first quarter was visible at an altitude of about 70° of the western part of the azimuth. The balloon flew over the southern part of Arkhangelsk (five kilometers from the center).
A.E. Durkin (a resident of Arkhangelsk) observed.
Hypotheses
Booster, the rocket and tracks
For UFOs often take stages of rockets, parts of space ships burning in the atmosphere, the launches of various missile technology for military purposes, etc., and traces from them. They attract attention mostly in the dark, but in the day time have a greater aura of mystery.
Formation of the track of the launch vehicle occurs in the tropopause (the layer between the troposphere and stratosphere), which sharply reduced the vertical temperature gradient. The emergence of the so-called "jellyfish" influenced by water vapor, which are subject to enhanced condensation.
