Initial data
Gorkov Vladimir Nikolaevich writes to the Commission on the:
It was while serving in the Army. He served in the Karelian ASSR in the border troops at one of the outposts on the border from 1970-1972. When I was a sentry at the outpost at night, the service was carried out on the ground (during the day on the tower). I approached where the weapons were loaded and discharged, there was a flash. The whole earth lit up. At first I didn't understand what it was. After a while, the flash was repeated and I realized that it was from above. Then I started watching. The flashes were so bright, well, let's say like lightning breaks or from a camera with a flash. The entire outpost building and part of the territory were illuminated. These flashes were moving. I look at this spot where it was before, and it flared up in another place.
Then I reported by phone to the duty officer at the outpost that we were being photographed.
The guard on duty at the outpost seemed to have reported to the head of the outpost, l-tu Ogurtsov, but he said that it was lightning. Then I tried to convince myself that I could not distinguish lightning from flashes, but I was told that such lightning also happens in Karelia. I don't remember exactly whether this phenomenon was recorded in the journal or not.
Hypotheses
The storm
The storm is an atmospheric phenomenon in which the inside of clouds or between the cloud and the earth's surface arise electrical discharges - lightning accompanied by thunder. It is quite a common natural phenomenon in certain situations could be considered something abnormal, such as when it appears under unusual conditions or unfamiliar to the eyewitness. A vivid example is the so-called "snow storm" (or "snow storm"), i.e. thunderstorm, which is when rain falls heavy snow, freezing rain or ice pellets.
