Initial data
A curious phenomenon was observed by an employee of the Giprosteklo Institute at night on 09/16/1979 in the area of Tarasovsky Lake near Leningrad (Karelian Isthmus). The night was moonlit and cloudless.
About 3-4 o'clock, after leaving the tent, he saw a pear-shaped luminous moon-white spot in the northeastern quarter of the sky. The spot was located below the lunar disk, being as if on the same vertical with it, the ratio of the visible sizes of the objects of observation is preserved in the diagram. The lower part of the spot glowed slightly fainter than the rest of the zone. Under the pear-shaped spot, apart from it, there was a small luminous "cloud".
For about 5 minutes, the spot maintained a static position, after which it began to lengthen and flatten, the light areas began to be covered with dark "streaks" and blurred.
These changes occurred quite quickly, similar to how we observe a cloud melting in the sky. Soon everything disappeared.
Hypotheses
Booster, the rocket and tracks
For UFOs often take stages of rockets, parts of space ships burning in the atmosphere, the launches of various missile technology for military purposes, etc., and traces from them. They attract attention mostly in the dark, but in the day time have a greater aura of mystery.
Formation of the track of the launch vehicle occurs in the tropopause (the layer between the troposphere and stratosphere), which sharply reduced the vertical temperature gradient. The emergence of the so-called "jellyfish" influenced by water vapor, which are subject to enhanced condensation.
