Initial data
In recent weeks, residents of the coastal areas of Tampa (Florida, USA) have been disturbed by a strange vibrating sound that prevents them from sleeping. Rhythmic sounds resembling basses from musical speakers or the beat of a drum began to be heard in mid-January, and their source remains a mystery to this day. This is reported by The Washington Post.
A resident of the city, Stephanie Kaltenbo, at first thought that one of the neighbors had just thrown a party too loud, but as the strange sound continued, she went in search of its source. Kaltenbo traveled all over the area, even drove to the nearest military base, but could not discover its origin.
Finally, marine biologist James Locascio has revealed the secret of this sound. He claims that the culprit may be bearded dark humps making low-frequency sounds during mating. Usually these sounds are heard only underwater, but under certain conditions they can be transmitted through the ground or underground communications.
In recent years, the population of these fish has increased significantly in Tampa Bay, and this may explain the appearance of strange sounds. As it turned out, many of them have been hearing for years, and despite the biologist's explanation, some still believe that loud parties or construction work are the cause of the noise.
Stephanie Kaltenbo and her neighbors decided to take the situation into their own hands and are raising money to install microphones to record these mysterious sounds and, with the help of scientists, try to find their real source.
Hypotheses
Famous creatures
There are a huge number of different living organisms on our planet. According to recent estimates, the number of species of organisms on our planet is approximately 7-10 million. However, only 15% of the data are described today.
According to the calculations of Canadians, 2.2 million species live in the world's oceans, 6.5 million on land. There are only about 7.8 million species of animals on the planet, 611 thousand fungi, and 300 thousand plants.
Investigation
Marine biologist James Locascio, argues that the culprit may be bearded dark humpbacks making low-frequency sounds during mating:
Usually these sounds are heard only underwater, but under certain conditions they can be transmitted through the ground or underground communications.
To confirm or refute this version, it is necessary to compare these sounds.
