A similar phenomenon, reported in the newspaper Leninskaya Pravda on September 24, 1977 in the article "Unidentified natural phenomenon", I observed with the staff of our laboratory A.P. Shemenyakin and A.P. Puncka in the Medvezhyegorsky district, in the village of Tolvuya, in the second half of September 1975.
At about 3 a.m., I saw a brightly glowing ball the size of an electric light bulb in the sky in a southeasterly direction from the village of Tolvuya. It attracted attention because it differs from the stars in the dark cloudless sky by its large size. Then the ball began to decrease in size, and around it a halo was clearly and vividly formed in the form of flickering rays emanating at some distance along the circumference from the ball. The halo around the glowing ball had the shape of a symmetrical polygon. The halo existed for some time after the ball in the center of it went out and, gradually moving away from the center, dissipated.
All this phenomenon happened in one place, and there was no movement.
Soon, a dot lit up again in the same direction, gradually increasing to its original size. The halo around the glowing ball was no longer observed. For some time, the newly appeared luminous ball was motionless, and then it began to move towards the horizon along a curve. then he returned again, while the size of the ball decreased and increased.
He stood in place for a while and then slowly began to move away to the horizon and disappeared behind it. After a while, bright lighting was observed over the horizon, which gradually faded. All this unusual phenomenon occurred for about 30-40 minutes. I do not remember the number of halo lights, so the image of the halo in the figure is schematic.
