Initial data
The observers are fighters of the student construction teams "Aelita" and "Monolith" of the ISU Faculty of Physics, about 90 people in total, 23 hours local time.
Observation conditions: clear sky, very rare small clouds.
In the northwest "under" Alcor and Mizar (Big Dipper) A blurred luminous spot was observed, slowly moving in an easterly direction. The glow is on the order of 2-3 stellar magnitudes. The spot was moving at a constant speed without any changes in trajectory.
The speed of movement is similar to that of high satellites, but the fact that the spot clearly does not have exact angular dimensions makes it seriously doubtful that this is an extraspheric object. In addition, as we moved, the impression grew that the object was being placed closer and larger. Comparing what we saw with the movement of aircraft, we can estimate an altitude of 2-3 km (an eyewitness's note).
Observations in theodolite 5x yielded nothing, as the outlines of the UFO remained blurred. after the start of observations, a bright flash appeared near the object, it is difficult to estimate the brightness in stellar magnitudes, but it is not less than -11 stellar magnitudes. The flash looked like a very bright star, and it remained in place when the main object continued to move in the same direction without changing speed. The bright star gradually began to blur and turn into an increasing luminous cloud. The brightness of the glow gradually decreased as it spread out.
Within a minute, the cloud dissolved, became invisible. Half a minute before, the main object produced a second flash, smaller in brightness and disappeared in a few seconds.
Later, the object moved too close to the horizon, moving towards Irkutsk. Visibility conditions have deteriorated significantly. The phenomenon lasted 5-6 minutes.
...
The objects overcame an arc in the firmament of about 60 degrees.
Hypotheses
Booster, the rocket and tracks
For UFOs often take stages of rockets, parts of space ships burning in the atmosphere, the launches of various missile technology for military purposes, etc., and traces from them. They attract attention mostly in the dark, but in the day time have a greater aura of mystery.
Formation of the track of the launch vehicle occurs in the tropopause (the layer between the troposphere and stratosphere), which sharply reduced the vertical temperature gradient. The emergence of the so-called "jellyfish" influenced by water vapor, which are subject to enhanced condensation.
