I read in the newspaper a work dated 30.01.85 about an unusual flying object and decided to write this letter.

The fact is that in mid-December 1978 (on the 15th, I don't remember more precisely) I flew on a night flight from Leningrad to Chita (by plane flying to Petropavlovsk in Kamchatka). Being next to the porthole, I suddenly saw and then for a long time (at least 15 minutes) observed a bright beam of light directed downward in the night sky. The intensity of the light seemed unnaturally high. The beam divergence angle was about 60 degrees. The light source was located just above and to the side of our plane. It was as if he was motionless relative to the plane. the distance from him seemed to be commensurate with the distance to the ground or something less.

I do not remember if the ground was visible at the same time because of the darkness surrounding the searchlight, I could not see the shape of the ship on which it was located.

I did not pay attention to the other passengers. I decided to contact the crew. A representative of the crew who came out to me said that they were watching everything the same way as I was. I returned to my seat with the thought that I would read somewhere what it was. That's how it ended (I told my family later).

I will add that it was most likely in the east of the Urals, and by time - about 2-3 hours Moscow time.
