V.S. Gambara (engineer) writes to the Commission on:
Dear Commission!
I am very glad that there is a place where I can write and tell you about my meeting with the unusual. I am sending you a postcard with a view of Old Riga on the right bank of the Daugava, taken from the left bank. On the postcard, I tried to depict the size and shape of the UFO I saw.
It was in 1962, in the middle of June, around 9-10 p.m.
In the blue twilight, the silhouette of Old Riga was clearly outlined, as I saw it from the tram stop, there were no new buildings then. I got off the tram and looked at the view of the river, from the stop it (the opposite bank) I was less than a kilometer away (I can't judge the distance by eye!). Old Riga was clearly visible, and, crossing the towers of churches and churches, an X-shaped object of bright yellow color was moving, or rather, it shone the color of an incandescent lamp.
I watched him for about 40 seconds, during which time he crossed all the towers, moving evenly from left to right, towards the Oktyabrsky Bridge (there was no new cantilever bridge then either, of course). A woman was rummaging in a bag next to me.
I grabbed her by the shoulder and pointed at the sparkling (or rather, shining) object.
"Do you see the fire there?" I asked her hastily.
"Yes, why?" - She asked me then.
I blinked, and at the same moment the glow went out, suddenly. I could make sure that I was not dreaming, and in general, I am a person who believes in facts, not visions. Everyone I told about this phenomenon convinced me that I had imagined, imagined, imagined... But I know for sure that I didn't see it.
In 1976, an employee who worked with me, a person completely devoid of imagination and incapable of fantasies, who does not read fiction (in this case, all this serves in favor of the event being described) she told me, and by accident, and not as a fact that struck her, that she was driving in a trolleybus across the Oktyabrsky Bridge, sitting at the window and looking along the river (towards the bay). A lentil-shaped object was moving across the river, quite high above the water, glowing yellow. She watched him for about twenty seconds, according to her. When asked what she thought it was, she said:
"Probably a plane..."
"Does it look like an airplane?"
"No..."
"What does it look like?"
"I don't know, no matter what!"
"Why didn't you ask anyone nearby, you weren't the only one looking out the window?"
"And there someone shouted - look, what is it?!"
"But we've already passed."
"And you didn't think about what it could be?"
"I don't know, I didn't think about it," was her answer, but she described the subject accurately.
Around 1936, a similar subject.
...
When I began to tell my friend about the object I had seen and show its movement on the postcard being sent, she interrupted me, to my amazement, with the question "It was yellow and like this"-and she drew the shape of the lens in profile with her hands.
For all that I have seen, I can vouch that it is:
- Not a hallucination,
- Not a plane,
- Not a helicopter,
- Not a blimp,
- Not a rocket,
- Not a delta glider -
- none of the devices we've seen and are familiar with.
I'm an engineer, and so is an employee. Both of my friends do not read fiction, but I read everything that comes to me from this area and I do not undertake to reject anything unusual, I will only sink what is unusual.
I hope that my message will be included in the mass of others that you will receive.
I am glad that there are people to whom I can tell about the unusual.
