About an unusual phenomenon in nature observed on September 20, 1977 from the ship "16 congress of the Komsomol" by the 3rd navigator of this vessel, Comrade. Prokofiev Valentin Alexandrovich.

It was a little over 23 hours, at about 23 o'clock. 10 min., when our ship was in the roadstead in Povenets (61° 48.8 st and 34° 40, 4 in.D).

I and many of my ship's crewmates saw an unusual phenomenon in the sky: some kind of glowing green with a bluish tinge "ball", the shape and size of which were close to the disk of the moon. There was also a glow of the wrong color around the ball, oval in shape in its upper part and elongated with three processes-rays and bottom. The average glow beam was shorter, but at the same time wider than the extreme ones. Its outlines had an irregular and insufficiently clear broken line. The extreme rays of the glow were regular, converging into a cone shape and much longer than the average, many times exceeding the diameter of the "ball" itself.

In general, the glow and the "ball" at the edges had a bright green color, softening in color with a bluish tinge towards the center. The weather accompanying this phenomenon was slightly windy, there was a rare cloud cover in the sky, and visibility was excellent. To the right of this phenomenon, at some distance from it, the northern lights took place.

Both phenomena in the sky were observed in the northeastern sector. Visually, I determined that the first of them, i.e., the "ball", was viewed by me, approximately 20-25° to the horizon for 25 minutes.

My observations of this glow of the "ball" and its environment were not constant, i.e.

they were intermittent, because I was busy with my own official business related to the bunkering of the ship.

It seems to me that for the longest time this unusual phenomenon in the sky was observed by Mikhail Subbotin, our 1st class sailor, but he is now temporarily called up for military service (study) for 45 days.
