Initial data
On the night of September 23-24, 1979, Captain 3r. Medvedev and 3 other naval officers were returning by car from the Karelian Isthmus to Leningrad. After driving about 20 km from Kirillovskoye, between 24-00 and 1-00, they saw a round ball hanging motionless, glowing with a matte light, to the east of the highway beyond the forest. The size of the ball was 3 times the size of the moon's disk.
To the right, down from the ball, a stationary luminous plume was visible, which gradually expanded away from the ball, but did not come into contact with it. The width of the plume was three times wider than the ball. Trying to make it to the bridges, the eyewitnesses did not stop, but observed this phenomenon only from the car.
Hypotheses
Booster, the rocket and tracks
For UFOs often take stages of rockets, parts of space ships burning in the atmosphere, the launches of various missile technology for military purposes, etc., and traces from them. They attract attention mostly in the dark, but in the day time have a greater aura of mystery.
Formation of the track of the launch vehicle occurs in the tropopause (the layer between the troposphere and stratosphere), which sharply reduced the vertical temperature gradient. The emergence of the so-called "jellyfish" influenced by water vapor, which are subject to enhanced condensation.
