UFO SIGHTINGS OVER MOSCOW (V.R.BYCHKOV)

From the apartment window facing north, I suddenly noticed that a bright glow appeared in the night sky. Having extinguished the table lamp, I began to observe this phenomenon. It was exactly at 23:55. Exactly in the north, at an altitude of 2-3 degrees above the horizon, a luminous and swirling stream of silvery yellowish color was visible. At the head of this stream, a bright ball of greenish-bluish color was visible, shrouded in a light haze of silvery glow, much fainter than the glow of the main stream.

The balloon was moving towards the southeast, gradually rising along the trajectory, and behind it stretched a smoky, brightly glowing plume, which gradually thickened and swelled as if in vertical and longitudinal directions, keeping up with the steam. The ball also increased as it approached, but the magnification was no more than twice.

Taking binoculars and a pencil, I continued to observe, sometimes turning on the light to make a sketch, record the time and the results of observations.

The glow intensified, the windows of houses that had been almost invisible before became visible, and the roof of a five-story house located on the other side of the street was illuminated. I noted all this briefly, since the most interesting thing was not at the bottom, but at the top.

I opened the window (the apartment is on the fifth floor) so that visibility was better. He looked at his watch. It's only been two minutes.

Six or seven bright rays radiated back from the ball, which at first smoothly diverged, rounded and then merged with the rest of the stream, forming a spherical elongated body, very reminiscent of an enormous airship. These rays seemed to tighten it, preventing the steaming gas inside this sphere from dispersing, since nothing was visible from the outside, no haze, even the smallest.

This sphere also glowed all over, with a ball in the head and was visible all through, as if from the front, somewhat to the left and from below. It was so clearly outlined that it seemed as if someone was painting it with a thin and invisible brush. I'll try to estimate its angular dimensions. Comparing this well-observed sphere with the diameter of the full Moon, it is approximately reasonable to say that the length of the "airship" was 11-12 diameters, and the height was 6 diameters of the Moon. The distance to the ball is more difficult to estimate, but if you compare it with an airplane visible at the same point in the sky, then I think it's up to it

It was about 15 kilometers in a straight line.

I examined all this with 2.5-fold binoculars and called my wife, who also watched it all.

The plume behind the sphere was now silvery in color, and at the far end it was yellow. Here are the main points of observations that were recorded.

23 hours and 57 minutes. - the ball turns smoothly to the east, continued to rise gently, the sphere continues to increase for a few more seconds, then the ball suddenly separates from its sphere and continues to move separately from it, almost not rising, but still turning to the east. The angular dimensions of the sphere of the "airship" and the plume, which I roughly measured, were 30 degrees horizontally and 15 degrees vertically. These measurements were made later, from memory, using a compass dial and ruler, so an error of several degrees is possible.

24 hours 00 minutes. Rays are still radiating from the moving ball, but very short, no more than five diameters of the ball, but they gradually shorten and go out. The feeling is that some engines have turned off and the radiation flow from them is fading. The balloon is still shrouded in haze, its speed is one and a half times the speed of an artificial satellite, but this may be an apparent excess due to the low altitude of the flight.

The angular dimensions of the ball approximately correspond to the size of a street lamp with a diameter of 20 cm, which is visible from a distance of 500 meters. The turn to the east is completely completed and the ball is moving away in this direction, slightly weakening in brightness. The color of the ball and the haze around it, four to five diameters thick, almost does not change, but the rays are still visible, but very faintly.

The ball is moving away, surrounded by a misty cloud, and finally disappears behind distant houses, but it is still very far from the horizon. I can't see him anymore.

The last impression from the direction of his movement is that he is still continuing to turn, as it seems that he is descending, but very gently.

00 hours 05 minutes. The trail from the plume is gradually blurring and the sphere has already lost its shape. The initial thickness of the plume was approximately equal in angular dimensions to the diameter of the full moon. Now it stretches out, but the glow almost does not weaken. Its thin fibrous structure is yellowish-silvery in color, the tail, about the last quarter, is yellow. All this looks like a flying bird, with outstretched wings, which is visible from the right side and, as it were, slightly from above.

00 hours and 12 minutes. The glow almost does not decrease in strength. There are no stars visible near the cloud. The entire UFO trail stretches, with the front part moving to the right and up, and the back part moving to the left and down.

00 hours and 25 minutes. The glow of the left part, the tail, turns yellowish-orange, with a reddish tinge from below. The dorma of this part resembles the Greek letter "omega", of enormous size, placed as if on the left side, tails back, approximately in the form of a "3"

00 hours and 30 minutes. By the intensity of the glow, the right part is much weaker, five to six times, on the left it is still bright, but the left trace carries faster and it blurs more strongly than the right one. It is obviously located in the lower layers of the atmosphere, where the air is denser and the air flows are more intense. In general, the impression of everything seen is that it was a UFO takeoff from earth with an ascent into the upper stratosphere, to a height of no more than 12-15 km.

The glow of the left part fades slower than the right one, but both parts are still bright enough.

00 hours and 40 minutes. The left half is carried even further to the left, the right - to the right. Their color does not change. The parts have already been noticeably divided, but this is not entirely visible, since a 12-storey building, 180 meters opposite, interferes with observation. The left part has turned a yellowish reddish hue.

00 hours and 45 minutes. Now the trail, divided into left and right parts, is very clearly visible. The decrease in luminescence is already more noticeable, but still slow. The shape of the left part changes slightly.

00 hours and 50 minutes. The divergence of the parts continues, they slowly fade and blur. However, some general form of their shape remains. The right part looks like a flying rocket with a plume, all of this is a silvery glow, the left one looks like blurred "exhaust gases" in the form of the letter "M." lying on the right side is an impressive sight.

00 hours and 55 minutes. Further divergence of parts of the UFO trail continues. The glow is still bright enough, it weakens slowly, bright stars are already visible.

01:10 a.m. The traces still remain and glow. The sky is starry, without a single cloud, dark blue in color, but the visibility of the stars, due to the light from the city, is weak. The weather is almost windless, the air temperature is +10° C.

Once again, the directions of the countries of the world are checked by compass. The entire observed phenomenon was completely silent.

The observations have been stopped.
