The Strange Story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Robert Louis Stevenson

Book (fiction)|1886

The strange and mysterious story of the mysterious Henry Jekyll inspires an unaccountable horror with its inexplicability. How can a decent, well-respected man, with an even, calm character, be connected with this vicious man, Edward Hyde, who commits brutal acts? Why are there such strange conditions in the doctor's will? Where does this Hyde live and where does it constantly disappear without a trace? The tangled incidents in which these two faces are fatally intertwined end tragically… And only the diary of the deceased, replete with terrible details, clarifies the picture of what happened.

Slim and Tabby are American police officers sent to London on an exchange to improve their skills.

In Hyde Park, there is an argument between Bruce Adams and his colleague Vicki Edwards. The showdown ends at the police station, but Vicki's guardian-Dr. Henry Jekyll-pulls them out. Dr. Jekyll himself conducts experiments in his home laboratory: after taking a special drug, he turns into his evil alter ego-Mr. Hyde. Jekyll's thoughts about the murder of Bruce when he sees that he likes the Wiki.

Slim and Tabby suspect the doctor of dangerous experiments, and Tabby even manages to catch him red-handed in the wax museum, but he manages to regain his human form before the witnesses arrive. After that, Jekyll invites his American friends to his house, where he treats Tabby with a tincture, and he temporarily turns into a giant mouse. Slim and Tabby try to inform Scotland Yard about the dangerous scientist, but no one believes them.

Vicki informs Dr. Jekyll of her intention to marry Bruce, and Mr. Hyde immediately tries to kill her. The girl is saved by the groom, but the monster escapes. Tabby accidentally injects himself with the doctor's serum and becomes a monster like Mr. Hyde himself. Bruce goes after Mr. Hyde, and Slim goes after Tabby, and everyone is sure that they are chasing the real and only monster. Bruce's chase ends at Jekyll's house, where Hyde falls out of a window and falls to his death, after which a reverse transformation takes place and everyone sees his true identity. Slim grabs Tabby the monster and takes him to the police station, where he manages to bite several police officers before returning to his human form. They turn into monsters and chase Slim and Tabby-man.

Phenomena in artwork: Werewolf

Dr. Jekyll turns into Mr. Hyde after injecting himself with a self-invented serum that releases the animal essence of a human being. After taking the drug, he completely changes: he grows thick dark hair on his face and hands, his facial features change, he becomes more like a monkey than a man. He retains the ability to speak clearly (while his voice changes to a growl) and think. One of the police officers undergoes the same metamorphosis, accidentally receiving a shot with a serum. At the end of the film, it turns out that the people who were bitten by this policeman also turn into monsters.

Unlike other films and the original literary source, Dr. Jekyll never turns into Hyde spontaneously (without exposure to the serum) during the entire film. The effect of the serum passes by itself after a while.

The film also shows other cases of werewolves. After drinking an unknown liquid in Dr. Jekyll's lab, one of the characters in the film temporarily turns into a giant mouse. At the same time, he retains the ability to think and talk, and generally does not notice the transformation at first.
