Aelita – fiction novel by Alexei Tolstoy about traveling earthlings to Mars. The first novel, subtitled "the decline of Mars" was published in the journal "Krasnaya Nov" (1922, №6 – 1923, №2).
The plot:
The correspondent of the American newspaper walks in St. Petersburg and sees an ad, written in ink, in pencil, by which a certain engineer Moose invites the volunteers to the expedition to Mars. Reporter searches workshop engineer to interview him. He shows him the ship and says that she is afraid to fly past Mars and die from hunger in the depths of space, so looking for a companion to die alone. The correspondent refuses.
