The sixth episode of the third season of the series is called "Zhirberg" (orig. "Fatberg"). The creature featured in the series is an apparent reference to an alien monster from the 1958 horror film The Drop (orig. "The Blob").
Constables Minogue and O'Leary investigate reports that a sentient lump of fat (which Sergeant Maaka calls a "Fatberg") is devouring people and pets. After escaping from Zhirberg during a car wash, they rescue a man who was dragged into the toilet by a monster.
While continuing the hunt, two police officers encounter the creature in a Wellington sewer. O'Leary manages to avoid being absorbed, and the monster devours one of the operators instead.
Meanwhile, Sergeant Maaka and Constable Parker discover that fire is a deadly threat to Girberg. Fatberg attacks a fish shop in Wellington and devours its customers. The police officers manage to blow up the monster and free the people it has consumed.
Phenomena in artwork: Land creatures
In the episode, a huge intelligent lump of fat is shown, seeking to devour all living things in its path. It lives in the sewers and attacks people and animals from the drains. When it attacks a living being, it liquefies and absorbs it, thereby increasing its mass. The people inside retain their shape and ability to speak for some time.
The creature is afraid of fire, and it is possible to destroy it by blowing it up from the inside. Once extracted from the fat, the newly absorbed individuals recover quickly.
