The astrophysicist confirmed what many suspected last night.

Science expert Scott Manley , who has more than a million YouTube subscribers, said on Wednesday that it was a Trident missile launch from a military submarine off the Bahamas.

The Trident missile was developed in the 1980s, is about 40 feet long, and is launched only from submarines.

Manly said a notice was posted ahead of Tuesday night's launch to give the pilots advance notice.

"We knew this was happening because they had to issue a notice to the airmen to let everyone know that the area was closed because something was going to take off," Manley said.

However, he said the launch notification was received in a "very, very short time" to pilots who may be in the rocket's airspace.

The astrophysicist said that such rocket tests are nothing new for this region.
