The legend of the Worm of Lambton began approximately in the 14th and 15th centuries, but since they mention the Crusades, it happened probably a couple of centuries early.
In Durham in the North East of England was rich in the estate Lambton quay and in those years there has grown up the young heir of the estate named John. It was a wayward child, which for those times was so bold that he even missed a Church service, but instead ran away on a fishing trip.
That Sunday afternoon John also missed going to Church, and I took the bait and went to the river. But on his way he met an old beggar, who told him to go to Church, "otherwise there will be big trouble".
But the boy ignored the old man and sat down to fish. However, he never got caught, yet in the Church ended the service. And only when people began to leave, John finally took the bait. But when he pulled the catch out of the water, instead of fish on the hook sat a strange creature with long slimy body of the eel, and the head is a large worm or Salamander. On each side of his head were ten holes of the gills, which in turn made it feel like a lamprey. In different legends the size of the creatures mentioned are different, for one it was the size of a finger, others almost a meter.
Sometimes he mentioned the presence of small feet, and sometimes it is not called a worm, and serpent. In General it was something that John had never met.
When John suffered the find home to show family, on his way again met the same old beggar and he said to John that he caught the Devil.
The frightened boy immediately threw the creature in the first well and then happily forgot about it for a few years.
When John grew up he went on a Crusade to the Holy land, and while he was in Durham began to happen strange events.
Apparently thrown into the well, the baby grew up and now he did not have enough frogs and tadpoles as food. He managed to get out of the well, and soon in the vicinity of the peasants began to disappear livestock.
When people started to look for someone who kills their animals, they were horrified to have stumbled upon a small hill, around which lay a huge worm or serpent.
In Fatfield, near Durham, and now there is a hill called the hill of the worm (the Worm hill), and claims to be the place where this creature had a lair.
The worm was so huge that he covered with his body the hill 3-4 times (some legends say even about 10 rings) and he ate not only sheep, but also children. At this size he had no trouble to kill and eat adults, but the victims are everywhere mentioned are only small children.
Especially worms liked milk and for his sake, he even attacked cows and tried to suck milk from their udders.
One day, a huge worm crawled right up to the walls of the castle Lambtons and elderly father of John's work paid off monster with a big trough of milk provided by 9 best cows. After drinking the milk, the worm crawled away from the castle.
On this being regularly attacked by armed peasants and many times they were able to hurt him or cut off part of his body. But the worm seemed to be immortal, every time he very quickly recovered from any injuries. In addition to farmers, the worm tried to leave the knights, but he killed them with blows of its powerful tail.
When seven years later, young John Lambton quay has returned from the Crusades, he found his native land in great disrepair. Farmers lost nearly all their cattle.
John decided to go and kill the monster, but first he advised to look for counsel from the witches who live nearby. The witch is the first thing told John, that the worm is his fault and that he rose from the creature that John fished in the river and then thrown into a well.
The logic in this place not so good at all the legends of Lambtons worm. This creature with the same success it would have grown in the river and as it was capable of long time to breathe outside of water, it will likewise get out of the river onto dry land and attacked peasant sheep. Another question, as this incredible monster ever got on the river.
According to legends, it was not a demon and not a Ghost, but a creature of flesh and blood and he must have parents. But if these areas earlier such monsters have not heard anything, so they have arrived here from somewhere else or happened something extraordinary.
Some cryptozoologists believe that this Worm was a mutant who just could not stop growing and was growing very quickly.
It is known that many reptiles grow all their life, for instance turtles, crocodiles and some snakes. But rapid growth implies a large consumption of energy and this might explain why the creature is constantly hungry and often killed many large animals. Normal Python is enough for one rat, then to a month without food. The same Worm-snakes were killed more often.
Back to John Lambton and the witch. After accusations of witch advised John to strengthen your armor with arrow heads and said, what worm should be killed right in the river (where he also loved to spend time). Also the witch told John after killing the Worm to kill another living creature, the first thing which he sees, otherwise the whole race Lambton the curse will fall.
John went to the river and when they found the worm there, then joined him in battle. The battle was exhausting, but at one point John had managed to cut a sword in half worm and half of the body of the creature immediately took over.
The remaining half with the head was trying to squeeze John in the rings, but soon became weak and died. In subsequent years, nothing of the sort in these parts was never seen again.
Unfortunately, the first living creature that John met after the battle, was his own father and John failed to kill him.
Later, he was stabbed with a sword the dog, however, the curse still fell on his family and the next seven generations Lambton invariably died a violent death.
Some of the subsequent Lambtons and in fact did not die a natural death and it is a historical fact. A Robert Lambton quay, probably son of John, judging by the years of his life, drowned in the river, in 1644 William Lambton quay was killed in the battle at Marston Moore, and 26 Jun 1761 Henry Lambton quay died in her carriage when she crossed Labenski bridge.
