An orange gas cloud burst over the city from an industrial enterprise.
CF Fertilizers said an "incident" at its nitric acid plant in Billingham led to the release of gas, which the company said was "nitrous oxide," on Friday afternoon.
The representative, who stated that there was no danger to the public, said that the sensors at the factory automatically turned off the facility. The gas emission stopped after five minutes.
Cleveland police said there were no reports of injuries or bumps outside the venue.
The company said it would now conduct a full investigation into the incident, which has caused serious speculation at the local level.
