During the approach of Hurricane Idalia to the coast of the US state of Florida, pilots recorded a rare natural phenomenon in which lightning appears inverted, the Independent reports.
Stunning shots of St. Elmo's lights – an optical phenomenon in which glowing plasma is created in the electric field of the atmosphere — were filmed by pilots at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa on Monday, August 28.
On the eve of the hurricane, all planes were evacuated from the base, towards which the elements were heading.
