On Christmas morning, NASA's James Webb space telescope was launched from French Guiana. The telescope was named after James Webb, the head of the space agency from 1961 to 1968.
Scientists began to receive information from "James Webb" five minutes after the device was launched from our planet. The Arianespace Ariane 5 rocket separated from the telescope after 27 minutes of flight. The observatory disconnected at an altitude of about 1400 km .
About half an hour after lifting into the air, Webb deployed solar panels, and project managers made sure that the batteries were powering the device with energy, NASA representatives said.
The spacecraft will explore space, like its predecessor, the Hubble telescope, but in the infrared range. This will allow him to look even deeper into the past of the Universe - by 13.7 billion years, that is, from two hundred to one hundred million years after the so-called Big Bang, after which our world appeared.
