Alex Krivenyshev, who lives in New York, woke up Monday morning before sunrise. And it was a good decision, because he saw a rocket over Manhattan.
It was the Northrop Grumman Antares rocket that delivered the Cygnus supply spacecraft to the International Space Station.
"Those who woke up at 5:35 a.m. saw an exciting show lasting 30-40 seconds with an amazing spiral trail of steam from the separated launch vehicle," says Krivenyshev.
The Cygnus spacecraft delivered cargo to the ISS for several unusual scientific experiments, for example, a bioprinter of human tissues.
During its first experiment in space in 2019 , the company BioFabrication Facility has successfully printed part of the meniscus of the human knee joint, as well as human heart cells. The 2019 flight confirmed that microgravity printing makes it possible to obtain tissue samples of higher quality compared to those printed on earth.
The researchers want to conduct additional tests in 2022.
