Snow of a yellowish hue, seen recently in several regions in the Volga Federal District, became so because of the admixture of sand.
According to the weather service, on March 17 and 18, precipitation of uncharacteristic shades (beige and yellow) fell in the Volga Federal District. The air masses that brought such snow came from the Volga lower reaches and the south of Kazakhstan, where dust storms were noted. The analysis of the samples showed the presence of sediment in the form of fine sand particles.
Similar snow was found in the Samara, Ulyanovsk, and Saratov regions.
The Ministry of Natural Resources assured citizens that such precipitation, although it looks quite unusual and frightening, does not actually pose a health hazard. In addition, no harmful man-made emissions have occurred in the region recently.
