Israel has developed a startup that will help in the fight against global warming: balloons that will collect carbon dioxide in the upper atmosphere for recycling, Reuters reports.
As you know, neither governments nor private companies consider it cost-effective to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, because at standard temperatures it is too expensive.
High Hopes Labs has developed a system that captures carbon far above the Ground, where it has almost solidified. The CEO of the company said that carbon gas becomes very easy to capture when it is close to freezing. This process takes place at a temperature of 80 ° C, and the only place where it is possible to find carbon at this temperature is 15 km above the ground.
While the company is testing its system by launching balloons into the sky under which boxes are attached, which serve as a mechanism for carbon capture. Then the frozen carbon is separated from the air, stored in boxes until it is returned to earth, where it is subject to reuse.
Over the next two years, the company intends to build larger balloons that could be used to remove large amounts of carbon every day. The project will purify the atmosphere from tons of carbon per day at a price below $ 100.
