In the town of Yoro in Honduras, an incredible thing happens every year: fish fall from the sky during "biblical" storms. This phenomenon is not unique, and such strange "weather phenomena" with animals have been recorded before all over the world, including frogs, snakes, rats, spiders, birds and jellyfish falling from the sky. However, cases of fish rain in Yoro occur more often than in other places, and this was witnessed by the National Geographic team back in the 1970s.
There are two hypotheses explaining the phenomenon.
The first connects it with tornadoes, which lift animals out of reservoirs and throw them onto land. However, the city of Yoro is far from the ocean, which makes this hypothesis unlikely.
The second is that the fish lives in underground reservoirs and comes to the surface during rain. This hypothesis is confirmed by the fact that all the fish during the strange precipitation were of the same species and also blind.
The true reason for what is happening remains a mystery.
Regardless of the explanation of the phenomenon, the annual fish rains in Yoro have already turned into a tourist attraction, and a local advertising agency together with a fishing company have even created an organization Heaven Fish to attract tourists and help locals earn extra money.
