In Khanty mythology, the name of spirits.
They are usually invisible to humans (however, they are seen by animals, as well as — through the medium of their zoomorphic assistants — shamans), but they can appear in the form of ghosts, objects and animals of unusual appearance.
There are Holes local and inhabiting everywhere, good and evil, anthropomorphic and zoomorphic, etc.
So, in the myths of the eastern Khanty are represented:
- Wont-Lunk (a forest spirit that helps animals escape from the hunter, taking their form and leading the hunter into confusion; he also shows the way home to the lost in the form of a capercaillie),
- Yenk-Lunk (water),
- Wat Lunk (wind spirit),
- Tohlang-vayah-Lunk (the lord of migratory birds living in the south),
- Kul-Lunk (the master spirit of the fish),
- Kul-tatte-Lunk (the spirit — creator of fish),
- Sart Hole (a huge pike flipping boats);
- Raham-Lunk and Kat-Lunk (patron spirits of the family, home),
- Kyn-Lunk (the spirit of diseases — MS. Kul-Otyr),
- Payam-Lunk (the spirit of hunger),
- Vor-Lunk (a spirit that sets the water level in rivers), etc.
