In Egyptian mythology, the goddess of war, the scorching sun and fierce revenge.
She was depicted as a woman with the head of a lioness. Since the time of the Middle Kingdom, a solar disk with uraeus and a snake appeared above her head, spewing flames at everyone whom the goddess wants to punish. He usually clutches the ankh symbol of life and a papyrus scepter (wAs) in his hands. Sometimes there are images of her with the horns of a cow or aries. Also, instead of the head, the eye of Ra was depicted, and the hands were raised like a Mine.
She personified the heat of the sun and the destructive power of the sun. It was believed that her breath created the desert. Some versions of the myth of the creation of mankind call her the creator of Libyans and Asians. She bore the epithet "mighty" or "mighty", "Great" and "Lady of the desert".
In the myth of Ra's punishment of the human race for sins, Sekhmet (in other versions of the myth — Hathor, Tefnut, Bast) exterminates people. Only the blood-like beer tinted with ochre (or red hematite) was able to intoxicate and pacify the bloodthirsty goddess.
Possessing magical power, Sekhmet can unleash a disease on a person, but she was also revered as a healer, patroness of doctors.
It is sometimes pointed out that "an Egyptian deity known as Sekhmet was one of the first known vampires."
