The Latin name of the dualistic – defilee (Diphylleia) comes from Greek. dio — two and phillon. This is due to the fact that the plant has only two leaves with long (to 20 cm) petioles. Dualistic very rare plant listed in the Red book. Blooms in late may – June for several weeks.
It has one amazing feature – after the rain its petals become transparent as if made of crystal. White rich color of the petals of a flower, then disappear, leaving only the veins. As such, the flower looks very gentle and original. But the nature of this unusual phenomenon – a temporary loss of pigmentation in contact with the raindrops.
The genus includes only three species:
- Dualistic gray (Diphylleia grayi) grows in the far East, Japan and China
- Dualistic Chinese (Diphylleia sinensis ) in East Asia
- Dualistic corymbose (Diphylleia cymosa) in North America
Because of its interesting features — flowers after the rain become translucent, often called dualistic Frame (Skeletal) flower (Skeleton Flower). And in America, common name Settolist (Umbrella-leaf).
