Initial data
Schoolgirls filmed (photo not published) on a mobile phone a strange flying object. The authors of the picture do not agree that this is an optical effect: the spot on the sun looks too contrasting and real.
On the evening of June 27, two tenth-graders Sveta and Nastya were walking in the evening Wasp (a small town in the south of the Perm Region), taking pictures of nature on their mobile. After reviewing the footage once again, the girls found a strange dot on the background of the Sun in the pictures.
- The spot interested us. We shot more and more. It began to change, to take the form of an elongated oval. It changed its position, became horizontal, then vertical, and after about an hour it became round again, - Svetlana Bulatova comments.
Curious girls ran home to Nastya for a second phone and continued their research. For two hours, until the Sun disappeared below the horizon, they filmed the sunset and a "UFO" was visible on all frames of both phones.
- We took photos for several hours from different points of our city, but the spot was always present in the pictures. It seemed unusual to me: I had photographed the Sun before, but I had never noticed any spots," recalls Nastya Martinova.
- At first, of course, I thought it was just a glare from the sun, - explains Sveta Bulatova. - For the purity of the experiment, we decided to take pictures with a second phone, but the result was the same: on my phone, a strange red light was moving away from the point in the photo.
- Maybe it's a flying saucer?! Nastya says excitedly. - With a normal look at the Sun, the point was not found, we tried to take a few more shots, the point resembled Saturn…
THE SKEPTIC'S OPINION
Nikolay SUBBOTIN, Director of the Russian Ufological Research Station (RUFORS), Perm:
In these images, we can observe a classic defect that occurs when taking direct photos in the sun using cell phones and inexpensive digital cameras that do not have the necessary protection. An even spot occurs as a result of overexposure of the CCD sensor of a digital camera and in most cases leads to its breakdown. On more expensive cameras, this defect is compensated by reducing the shutter speed and aperture opening (as a result, the picture becomes darker and denser). Of course, these pictures have nothing to do with UFOs!
Hypotheses
Solarization
Full or partial conversion of coloured images result in over-exposed. If the exposure of the photographic material is excessive and goes beyond the linear section of the characteristic curve of the optical image density becomes inversely proportional to the amount falling on the emulsion of the light. Thus in areas where there is a similar "Peresvet", the optical density the less, the more exposure.
Investigation
Unfortunately, the photos were not published in the source, but based on the description, we can agree with the opinion Nikolai Subbotin is a solarization.
