Initial data
Residents of Surendranagar, Kheda and Anand districts of Gujarat (India) reported mysterious metal balls falling from the sky.
Residents of the village of Saila in Surendranagar District reported that a metal ball (or several) recently fell from the sky. The fragments were scattered across the fields. According to people, they were stunned by this mysterious phenomenon.
Over the past three days, strange metal balls of black and silver color have been found in Umret and Nadiad in Kheda District, as well as in three villages of Anand District.
After these strange incidents, the Laboratory of Physical Research (LFI) intervened in the case. This is a state institute under the Department of Space, which conducts research in the field of space science.
Experts believe that the strange metal balls are satellite debris. The only strange thing is that none of the space agencies predicted that the satellite debris would fall to earth.
Almost always in such cases, an official statement is made a few days before the incident.
Original news
SEOUL, South Korea — Indian authorities are examining several pieces of suspected space debris that fell into rural western India on May 12, with the timing of the incident suggesting they could be parts of a Chinese rocket that reentered the atmosphere that day.
Local media reported that the objects crashed with “loud thuds that shook the ground” in Gujarat. There were no casualties or property damage, according to The Indian Express. The crashed objects were all discovered within a 15-kilometer radius, and among them was a black metal ball weighing around five kilograms, the newspaper said.
Neither local authorities nor the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) had positively identified the objects.
Hypotheses
Space debris
By space junk refers to all manmade objects and their fragments in space, which is already faulty, not functioning, and will never be able to serve any useful purpose. Currently in low earth orbits up to altitudes of about 2000 km is, according to various estimates, about 220 thousand (300 thousand according to the UN office for outer space Affairs, October 2009) man-made objects weighing up to 5000 tons.
In the case of UFOs, it is possible to expand this list lost cosmonauts things (tools, etc.).
Investigation
Space observer Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics says the debris is likely part of the third stage of China's Changzheng-3B rocket, which re-entered the atmosphere on May 12. The rocket launched in September carries the Chinese ZX-9B communications satellite:
"We know that CZ-3B Y86 returned to space that morning," McDowell told SpaceNews in an email on May 16, referring to the name of the Chinese rocket in the Spacetrack catalog. "We don't know exactly where exactly, but the alleged trail does cross Gujarat at about the right time, so it's a good candidate, and there were no other major objects that entered it again that morning. Therefore, I conclude that the identification of this garbage with CZ-3B Y86 is very strong (high confidence, although not 100% final)."
